Kiviwama Conservation Project

Project Summary

Kiviwama Project is a conservation/environmental project based in town. Local plants are grown at this project and ecological paper is made. Each year Kiviwama sells more than 3000 plants. The organization has implemented a partnership with local businesses like Union Café, and is directly working with the Moshi council in order to re-establish the natural environment of the Kilimanjaro area. People at this project are very friendly and always happy to welcome new volunteers, to teach them Kiswahili and to sensitize them about the environmental issues in Tanzania.

Activities

As a volunteer you will be expected to assist the local staff in planting and watering local plants, in collecting seeds and in making ecological paper.

Schedule

You can either attend this project in the morning, in the afternoon or spend the whole day there if you wish to. This project is open all year-round.

Getting There

The project is based 5 minutes walk from town and about 30-40 minutes walk from the volunteer house.

Number of Volunteers

Typically 1-10 volunteers are placed at this project.

Resources & Additional Needs

Resources are limited, and it would be greatly appreciated if volunteers can bring gardening equipment such as hosepipes, plastic bags, buckets, etc.

Conservation - Tree Planting

Project Summary

Art in Tanzania is assisting in tree planting activities both in the tree nursery and on the field planning the trees.

Activities

You assist and learn tree nursery and planting activities in Moshi township and surroundings.

Schedule

This is an on-going program and you can participate at any time. It is also a program you can have as add on task along education and other placements.

Getting There

Program takes place around Moshi Municipality. Walking distance or local bus.
