The women groups in Dar Es Salaam and in Moshi in Kilimanjaro and in Masai land in N'gorongoro are established for widows and underprivileged women to give them opportunities to provide for themselves and their families, a better quality of life. It is well known that women invest their income in their families' well being, and thus helping women can indirectly help their entire families.
Volunteers and interns perform vocational training classes in English teaching, mathematics and computer skills. Some women's groups are also focused on business skills.
These women want to learn about bookkeeping, accounting and marketing. We also encourage volunteers who have the right skills set to teach HIV and health related classes, handicraft or tailoring skills. Most of the women groups are established to enhance the earnings of the women.
Most of the groups are lacking resources so anything that volunteers can bring to use in the seminars is welcome. Volunteers working with women's group need to be creative, artistic and organized but also self-confident and show self-initiative.
An in country Coordinator is available to assist the participant from the first day of arrival until the end of their participation. Upon arrival our staff will show you around the local area, help you settle into the volunteer house and help you get started on your chosen placement. The program Coordinator will also be the person responsible for designing the individualized placement.
Please don't expect to find the same structure, standards and attitudes as in your home country. Also we have many different adventure tours and cultural events to add to your stay in Africa.
