Style guide for content pages
The majority of pages on this site are content pages - pages that provide information about a topic. All of the advice on writing style given on the Writing for the web page applies, as well as the following points:
- A good content page should from 250 to 500 words long. Only go longer if it is really necessary to put a large amount of information up such as on a legal information page
- If the content page is less than 250 words long, try to merge several short pages together to make one longer one - using a question and answer format is a good way to do this.
- Choose an image that's relevant to the content, and insert it at the top left of the article. If you don't have a relevant image include text only - for example it's better to leave the "our website" page without an image than to include a lion or other irrelevant image that will confuse users.
