Art Teaching Program

Project Summary

Bahari Beach Show 19Many of the local nursery, primary and secondary schools have no arts programs whatsoever, and are grateful when volunteers are able to teach students how to express themselves artistically. The creation of an arts curriculum is underway, but volunteers are needed to continue this initiative. Volunteers can assist in the creation of the curriculum or simply visit local schools and teach art classes.

Activities

Volunteers will work with local children to teach art classes focusing on activities such as painting, drawing, working with clay and play-dough and other arts and crafts projects. Several teaching guidelines are available as well as many lesson plans. Volunteers will be required to do their own research and use their own initiative to come up with projects for the children to work on.

Schedule

Times will vary for the lessons depending on the different school schedules but will mostly be in the afternoon hours.

Getting There

The location of this project varies with the schools we are partnered with but most schools are located close to the Volunteer House.

Number of Volunteers

Typically 1 to 4 volunteers are placed to conduct the art classes.

Resources & Additional Needs

AIT has lesson plans as well a small budget for art materials. As the art funds and materials are limited, any resources that you can bring with you would be greatly appreciated.

Special Note

The project requires a significant amount of self‐motivation and independence, as most of the teachers have no experience in teaching art. Any art training would be a plus, but is not required.
