Our locations
Our head office is in Dar es Salaam. We also run African volunteer and internship projects and safaris from, Karatu, Masai land, Moshi, Serengeti and Zanzibar. We have accommodation for safari customers, volunteers and interns in each of these Tanzanian locations.
We are currently raising funds to build a new centre in Bagamoyo.
Dar es Salaam
Art in Tanzania is based in Bahari Beach, an idyllic coastal location in Tanzania’s largest city, Dar es Salaam. Dar es Salaam is Art in Tanzania's largest center where we offer the widest range of volunteering and internship projects.
The house is a 10 minute walk from the beach and the attractions and facilities of downtown Dar are within easy reach. Traveling to Zanzibar is simple from the Dar house and it's also the starting point for safari's on the southern circuit.

Karatu
Karatu is a small town with a cool climate. All our community projects are within walking distance of the volunteer's house. You can combine work in Karatu with placements at our Masai land and Serengeti houses.
Karatu is the ideal place for volunteers and interns who love wildlife. It'is the closest town to the N'gorongoro conservation area and near to Serengeti and Lake Manyara National Parks.

Masai Land
Art in Tanzania has worked in the Masai village of Butti for over ten years now. We run the village school and pay the teachers salaries. We have recently completed construction of permanent buildings for the school.
Volunteers and interns stay in traditional Masai huts and observe Masai cultural practices while they work in the village. Butti is close to the national parks on the northern safari circuit.

Moshi
With Mount Kilimanjaro rising above you, Art in Tanzania’s accommodation in Moshi has one of the most stunning backdrops in the whole of Africa. Our accommodation is within walking distance of the vibrant town centre.
From Moshi we run volunteering and internship programmes in education, schools and orphanages and internships in medicine, sports, women's groups and other fields.

Serengeti
Serengeti is our newest project site. We work in Robanda village in Serengeti. Robanda is a small village with a population of around 8,000 people. We work in the local nursery, primary and secondary school.
You can combine Serengeti volunteering with safaris. The Great Migration passes through the village between June and September and you will be surrounded by wildlife in your front yard.

Zanzibar
Set in one of the most exotic places in the world, Art in Tanzania’s main accommodation for volunteer's and interns on Zanzibar is in the heart of Stone Town’s atmospheric labyrinth of streets. We also house volunteers in a small village on the east coast of the island.
In your spare time on Zanzibar you can chill out in the world famous beach resorts or see the sights of the island on a day trip.
Hassan has been working for Art in Tanzania since the Zanzibar house opened in 2009. He takes care of the household, doing the shopping, and any kind of maintenance that is required.
